This is a former Benedictine Monastery of the fifteenth century located in a beautiful part of the Tuscan countryside. The Abbey was dedicated to St. Ann, mother of Mary, the mother of Jesus. In the refectory of the church frescoes that date to the early 1500s represent the early works of the artist, Antonio Bazzi, who was also known as the "Sodoma". This is also the site of the majority of the scenes from the movie, The English Patient, filmed in 1996. Today the monastery is an Agriturismo, where guest rooms were once the ancient cells of the monks in residence. On the grounds there is a cemetery that is not to be missed, with unusual markers and headstones surrounded by wildflowers.
