Civita di Bagnoregio is not in Tuscany, but is in the Province of Viterbo. It was founded by the Etruscans over 2,500 years ago. Civita di Bagnoregio is famous for its positioning, rising high into the sky from atop its plateau of volcanic tufa rock. Erosion presents a constant danger that the village will be lost. The village has been placed on the Watch List of the 100 Most Endangered Sites. Efforts are now being made to ensure that the village is preserved.
Civita di Bagnoregio has largely been untouched due to its isolation from modern times. The village avoided destruction in the two world wars, leaving it unscathed. This makes Civita di Bagnoregio a very rare jewel, so much so that we believe it worthy of experiencing on a Tuscan Muse workshop or tour.
