Orvieto is a city and commune in Umbria, not Tuscany. It rises from vertical cliffs and is contained by medieval walls built from stone called tufa. It has been inhabited since the time of the Etruscans. It was an important town due to its positioning, as it controlled the road between Rome and Florence.
Orvieto is a beautiful fortress town and is famous for its many Etruscan artifacts. It is also known for its artesian well, the Pozzo di San Patrizio, which was constructed in 1528.
Tuscan Muse is happy to include Orvieto on our tours of Tuscany and workshops in Tuscany, despite the fact that it is in Umbria. It is an extraordinary place worthy of seeing!
