Florence

florence-italyFlorence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance! The best known site of Florence is the domed cathedral of the city, Santa Maria del Fiore, known as the Duomo. The nearby Campanile and the Baptistry's buildings are also highlights.

Florence contains numerous museums and art galleries where some of the world's most important works of art are held. The city is one of the best preserved Renaissance centers in the world and has a high concentration of art, architecture and culture. In the ranking list of the 15 most visited Italian art museums, two-thirds are represented by Florentine museums.

The Uffizi Gallery is one of these. One of the most famous and important art galleries in the world, it has a very large collection of international and Florentine art. The gallery is articulated in many halls, cataloged by schools and chronological order. Sponsored by the Medici family's artistic collections through the centuries, it houses works of art by various painters and artists of world renown.

The Vasari Corridor is another gallery, built connecting the Palazzo Vecchio with the Pitti Palace passing by the Uffizi and over the Ponte Vecchio. The Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze houses a Michelangelo collection, including the David.

No trip to Tuscany would be complete without a trip to Florence. The art, architecture and bustling crowds of the city are not to be missed. Oh, and do not forget to sample the fine cuisine of Florence! The Bistecca di Fiorentina, is the glory of Tuscan meat and is made from Chianina beef, raised in the nearby Chiana Valley.

  • Our stay at Le Casacce will always be a glorious memory. By the time the trip was over, we already missed our new friend, Linda. We came home filled with tales of the sights we had seen, the excellent food we had eaten and the good times made possible by Tuscan Muse
